This course is a 2 part class for adults. You must complete the online, gsLearn section before moving forward to the live, in person section. Out and About needs to be completed before taking this class. This class will cover Outdoor Manners, Dressing for the Outdoors, Safety regarding Bow Saws and Pocketknives, as well as Sleeping bag and Tent information. This course will outdoor training requirements and will provide volunteers with the skills they need to teach girls to build fires safely, plan and carry out camping trips with their girls either with or independent from the Service Unit. Volunteers will expand their camping skills to tenting and explore more advanced outdoor cooking techniques to include Dutch Ovens.
You will need a mess kit and dunk bag for this course. You can pick up a plastic plate, bowl and cup at a dollar store, along with a mesh bag. Add a fork, knife and spoon. Please notify customercare@gsofct.org if you have food allergies, restrictions or other concerns so we can alert the course facilitators. CDC guidelines for COVID-19 must be followed by all participants, including social distancing and mask wearing while leaving work space. Dress for the weather, as this course is rain or shine and will be spent mostly outdoors.
